The Majesty of a Moroccan Dream — Hassan II Mosque Casablanca
“Some experiences are so visually extraordinary that they remain with us long after we have moved on to the next destination. Morocco was one of those experiences for me. The architecture, the colors, the intricate craftsmanship, and the atmosphere of Casablanca created an impression that I wanted to preserve—not simply as a memory, but as an expression of art.”

A Dream Inspired by Morocco
There are places in the world that seem to exist somewhere between imagination and reality. Casablanca, Morocco, offered me one of those experiences. Its distinctive architectural character, rich artistic traditions, and remarkable cultural identity created an environment filled with inspiration.
Among the most memorable sights was the magnificent Hassan II Mosque. Rising dramatically along the Atlantic coastline, this extraordinary landmark combines monumental architecture with an astonishing level of decorative craftsmanship. Its presence is commanding, yet the details reveal a remarkable delicacy and artistic sophistication.
The Majesty of a Moroccan Dream — Hassan II Mosque Casablanca is my personal artistic interpretation of this experience. Through color, composition, texture, and contemporary mixed-media techniques, I sought to express the visual beauty and emotional impression that Morocco left with me.
Rather than simply reproducing a famous building, I wanted to explore the character of the destination and translate its influence into an original artistic statement.
The Magnificence of the Hassan II Mosque
Completed in 1993, the Hassan II Mosque is one of the largest mosques in the world and an internationally recognized symbol of Casablanca. Its extraordinary location beside the Atlantic Ocean gives it a dramatic architectural presence. Part of the complex extends over the water, creating a remarkable relationship between the structure and its coastal surroundings.
Its towering minaret rises approximately 210 meters above the landscape, making it one of the tallest minarets in the world.
Yet the mosque’s true distinction extends well beyond its impressive dimensions. Its architectural details reveal the extraordinary skill of Moroccan artisans. Elaborate geometric mosaics, intricate carved plaster, decorative woodwork, marble, and traditional ornamental patterns combine to create an environment of remarkable visual richness.
I was particularly drawn to the relationship between these individual details and the overall architectural composition. There is a sense of harmony in the way everything comes together. Each decorative element contributes to a much larger expression of beauty.
As an artist, I find that relationship fascinating. The same principle applies to painting, where individual colors, textures, and shapes must work together to establish the personality of the finished work.
Translating a Moroccan Experience Into Art
My artistic process often begins with an impression rather than a fixed destination. A particular color combination, an architectural detail, or an unexpected visual relationship can become the starting point for an entirely new composition.
My visit to Casablanca provided an abundance of these possibilities.
The Hassan II Mosque presented a remarkable combination of geometric precision, architectural grandeur, and decorative complexity. I wanted to take those impressions and explore them through my own creative vocabulary.
The title, The Majesty of a Moroccan Dream, reflects that intention. It speaks to the extraordinary visual experience of Morocco while allowing the artwork to move beyond a literal interpretation of its subject.
For me, art becomes especially interesting when recognizable inspiration meets individual imagination. The original subject provides a foundation, but the creative process allows that foundation to evolve into something personal.
This work represents that balance between the beauty of a real place and the freedom of artistic expression.
Color, Texture, and Artistic Discovery
Color has always played an important role in my work. I enjoy exploring how colors interact, how they establish movement, and how their relationships influence the way a composition is experienced.
Moroccan architecture offers a particularly compelling source of inspiration. Its decorative traditions, intricate patterns, and distinctive surfaces create opportunities to explore visual rhythm and complexity.
My mixed-media approach allows me to develop these influences through multiple layers of artistic expression. Original photographic imagery, exhibition-quality canvas, and carefully applied acrylic paints provide the foundation for the creative process.
The overpainting technique is especially important to my work. I introduce additional layers of acrylics, glazing, and subtle shimmer to create depth and develop an individual interpretation of the original imagery.
Rather than simply presenting an image, I work with the canvas to create something that reflects my own artistic perspective.
Texture and layered applications contribute to the finished character of the composition. These elements allow the artwork to move between recognizable imagery and contemporary abstract expression.
The objective is not to imitate the architecture precisely, but to communicate something of its beauty through a different artistic language.
The Influence of Travel and Discovery
My travels through Spain, Portugal, and Morocco have provided an extraordinary collection of visual experiences. Each destination offered its own architectural personality, cultural influences, and opportunities for artistic discovery.
Morocco was particularly memorable because of its distinctive design traditions and the remarkable visual character of its cities.
Casablanca introduced me to an architectural landmark that represents an extraordinary combination of craftsmanship, imagination, and cultural identity. Experiencing the Hassan II Mosque firsthand allowed me to appreciate its scale and intricate details in a way that photographs alone cannot fully communicate.
Travel has an important place in my creative life. It encourages me to look beyond familiar surroundings and recognize new relationships between color, structure, and form.
Sometimes an experience becomes the inspiration for a new work immediately. Other times, it takes shape gradually as memories develop into creative ideas.
This artwork is a reflection of that process—a Moroccan experience transformed through personal artistic interpretation.
An Original Work for the Discerning Collector
With a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree and more than 55 years of creative experience, I continue to explore the possibilities of contemporary mixed-media art.
My work brings together original imagery, acrylic painting, layered surfaces, and individual finishing techniques. Each composition develops through its own creative journey, with an emphasis on originality, craftsmanship, and artistic expression.
The Majesty of a Moroccan Dream — Hassan II Mosque Casablanca offers collectors an opportunity to experience a distinctive interpretation of one of Morocco’s most celebrated landmarks.
It is a work that may resonate with those who appreciate international architecture, cultural influences, travel, and contemporary art with a meaningful connection to place.
Each original composition reflects an individual creative vision, developed through a process that combines inspiration with decades of artistic exploration.
A Moroccan Memory Transformed Into Art
Some destinations become lasting parts of our personal stories. They influence our memories, our perspectives, and sometimes even the way we approach our creative lives.
Casablanca was one of those destinations for me. The Hassan II Mosque remains an extraordinary example of architectural beauty and the possibilities of human craftsmanship.
Through this artwork, I wanted to preserve more than the appearance of a remarkable landmark. I wanted to express the atmosphere, inspiration, and sense of wonder that accompanied my experience in Morocco.
The Majesty of a Moroccan Dream is my tribute to that experience—a celebration of Moroccan architecture, artistic tradition, and the enduring influence of travel.
It is a personal journey brought to life through color, texture, and contemporary mixed-media expression.
