In Glacier Bay National Park there are two primary glaciers. Margerie is the first one and Lamplugh is the second. Alaska is one of those places that changes every minute so you have to stay on task as a photographer because you only have one chance or no chances. The fog rolled in so heavy after a beautiful stop at Margerie that the captain announced its not safe to do a 360 degree visual turn on Lamplugh Glacier. I stayed on my balcony on the 11th deck Aft position waiting and hoping for the fog to lift. For a total of two minutes it lifted just in time for this panoramic. The beauty of todays phone cameras is that everyone has a chance to be a photographer in a once in a lifetime location.

Tip

I have the newer I Phone 15 Pro Max and use an application called Halide that takes amazing high resolution photos ( I produce fine art prints  in my studio using a commercial Cannon printer). I alway shoot with my Nikon Full Frame 35 mm and my phone. If you avoid zooming in using Halide you will always come away with the maximum file size beating a Nikon by 10 to 15%. The minute you zoom its back to low resolution only . The problem with using the I Phone software is it picks for you the resolution it wants. The Halide is a free program that keeps the file size between 45 and 100 megs per image ( do not zoom ).

About The Artist

Hello My name is Michael John Valentine and I have been involved making art for over 55 years. I started off at 10 years old at an art institute in Ohio and completed my education at Kent State University with a Bachelors of Fine and Professional Arts Degree.

I love the way acrylic paints set up vs the long dry time of oils. Canvas is my go to mixed media surface since it lets me gallery wrap or send out my work in a tube.

My studio and gallery is located in Cornelius North Carolina next to Lake Norman.

Lately this new series features plenty of palette knifes of all sizes and colors that jump off the canvas. Splatter technique is one way to categorize this newer collection. Mixed Media suggests that photography, canvas and acrylics all meet up for original abstract works of art.

It’s not uncommon for me to blend 3-8 photos together of places I have traveled with my cameras. The work you are seeing always starts with my original photography. I have had numerous awards and magazines publish my work. My website uses this catch phrase ” Imaginative Photography to Abstract Modern Art”.

Once the painting is complete the canvas is glazed with a subtle sheen to protect the painting so that it lasts a lifetime.

It is not framed because it goes in a protective glassine sleeve and ships in a heavy duty tube. This process assures you that it arrives undamaged . By shipping this way you can take it to a framing shop and have it mounted and framed to your liking. A certificate of authenticity accompanies this acrylic painting.
