Artist Quote by Michael John Valentine
“Earth below the clouds is where the story of life is written — a place of ancient colors, hidden textures, and endless beauty. From above we see the patterns, but when we look deeper, we discover the soul of the planet beneath our feet. My goal is to capture not just the land, but the spirit, depth, and richness of the Earth that has been waiting there for millions of years.”

Earth Below The Clouds — A Journey Into The Soul Of Our Planet
There is a moment when we look down from above and realize that the Earth is not simply a place we inhabit — it is a living masterpiece. Mountains become brushstrokes, rivers become flowing lines of movement, forests become layers of texture, and the landscape below transforms into a canvas painted by time itself. “Earth Below The Clouds” captures that breathtaking perspective — the feeling of looking beyond the surface and discovering the incredible depth, richness, and mystery of our planet.
This artwork is part of my exploration of the Earth Series, a collection inspired by the natural forces, colors, and organic patterns that define our world. Works such as Heart Of The Earth and Rare Earth explore similar themes — the connection between land, sky, atmosphere, and the unseen energy that gives our planet its character.
With “Earth Below The Clouds,” I wanted to create more than a landscape. I wanted to create an emotional experience — a reminder that beneath every cloud formation, every horizon, and every passing storm lies a world filled with history, beauty, and incredible complexity.
The title itself represents a shift in perspective. When we stand on the ground, we often see only what is directly in front of us. But when we imagine ourselves above the clouds, looking down, the Earth reveals a different language. The separation between land and sky disappears. The colors blend together. The planet becomes one magnificent composition of light, shadow, movement, and texture.
The richness of the Earth comes from its contrasts. Dark valleys sit beside glowing fields. Deep oceans meet rugged coastlines. Ancient mountains rise through changing skies. Every inch of the planet carries evidence of transformation. Wind, water, fire, and time have shaped the world around us, creating patterns that no human artist could ever fully replicate.
My approach to this piece reflects that same idea. Through layers, textures, and expressive color, I seek to create the feeling of looking through the atmosphere and seeing the hidden beauty beneath. The artwork invites the viewer to slow down and explore — to notice the subtle changes, the movement within the colors, and the energy that flows through the composition.
There is something humbling about viewing the Earth from above. It reminds us that we are part of something much larger than ourselves. Borders disappear. Cities become tiny marks. The endless landscape becomes a symbol of connection. We are all passengers on this incredible planet, sharing the same skies, oceans, and ground beneath our feet.
This piece is also a celebration of nature’s ability to create endless inspiration. As an artist, I have always been fascinated by the relationship between imagination and the natural world. The Earth provides the original palette — the deep browns of soil, the powerful blues of water, the warm tones of sunlight, and the ever-changing colors created when atmosphere meets land.
“Earth Below The Clouds” is designed for collectors who appreciate artwork that carries meaning beyond decoration. It is a conversation piece — a work that encourages reflection and invites viewers to reconnect with the beauty surrounding them every day.
Placed in a home, office, or private collection, this painting brings a sense of depth and wonder into the space. It represents exploration, discovery, and appreciation for the incredible world we call home. It is a reminder that beauty exists everywhere — above us, below us, and within every layer of the Earth.
For me, creating this artwork was about capturing a feeling: the quiet awe of seeing our planet from a new perspective. The Earth below the clouds is not just a view; it is a story. It is a history written in mountains and oceans, a masterpiece shaped by nature, and a reminder of the rare privilege we have to experience this extraordinary place.
“Earth Below The Clouds” is an invitation to look deeper — to see the planet not only with our eyes, but with our imagination and our soul. It celebrates the richness beneath the sky and the timeless beauty of the world we all share.
