We had an excursion with Wings Airways in Juneau Alaska arranged by Princess Cruises for us. As a photographer I have flown around in a helicopter with the doors off and that is a life changing experience. Taking off and landing from the water tops that and the scenery from the air is breathtaking. Everyone had a window seat and the pilot talked to us through our own headset. He did not always fly above the mountains. He pointed our white dots moving along the cliff edges and we could see mountain goats known as Rocky Mountain Goats. I will say that it would be very cold flying with the doors off and because of that it’s very difficult to use a long lens.
In this case I shot straight down into the blue, black and white ice. I love creating abstracts from my photography because it allows me to Painting with acrylics over select areas of the canvas I under print on. This is not painted yet until someone asks me to create a special abstract of Alaska. I can’t image how deep these glaciers are and how old the ice is.

I love the way acrylic paints set up vs the long dry time of oils. Canvas is my go to mixed media surface since it lets me gallery wrap or send out my work in a tube.

It’s not uncommon for me to blend 3-8 photos together of places I have traveled with my cameras. The work you are seeing always starts with my original photography.
