Emerald Dreams of Tomorrow

There is something powerful about imagining what comes next. Emerald Dreams of Tomorrow is an abstract mixed-media work about possibility—the feeling that somewhere beyond what we know today is something new waiting to emerge.

The painting begins with the richness of emerald, a color that has always carried a sense of life, renewal, nature, and sophistication. But in this work, emerald becomes more than a color. It becomes a symbol of hope, imagination, movement, and the unknown. It represents the space between where we are and where we might go.

Emerald Dreams of Tomorrow is not intended to depict a specific place or moment. Instead, it creates an atmosphere where the viewer can form their own interpretation. The composition invites you to look beyond recognizable forms and experience the interaction of color, texture, light, and movement. Like a dream, the imagery can seem familiar without ever becoming completely defined.

That ambiguity is intentional.

I believe one of the greatest strengths of abstract art is its ability to give the viewer freedom. A realistic painting can tell you what you are looking at. An abstract painting can ask you what you see. The answer can change from person to person—and even from one day to the next.

In Emerald Dreams of Tomorrow, layers of original photography, acrylic paint, glazing, and mixed-media elements are brought together on exhibition-quality canvas. Each layer contributes to the depth of the finished work. Some elements remain visible beneath translucent glazes, while others are transformed or partially concealed by subsequent layers of paint.

This process creates a sense of history within the artwork.

Nothing exists completely on its own. Earlier layers remain part of what eventually appears on the surface, much as our experiences, memories, and choices remain part of who we become. The finished painting is therefore not simply an image—it is the result of an evolving process.

Light also plays an important role.

Subtle areas of shimmer interact with the emerald tones, creating changes in the surface as the artwork is viewed from different angles and under different lighting. At one moment, the painting can feel quiet and contemplative. At another, the surface seems to become more energetic and alive.

That changing quality is something I enjoy about working in mixed media. The artwork doesn’t have to reveal everything immediately.

There can be something waiting beneath the surface.

The title Emerald Dreams of Tomorrow reflects that idea. Tomorrow is something we can imagine but cannot completely know. We can make plans for it, hope for it, fear it, or look forward to it, but the future always contains an element of mystery.

Dreams work in much the same way.

They allow us to imagine possibilities before they become realities.

This painting brings those two ideas together: dreams and tomorrow. It is about the possibilities that exist before the outcome is known. It can suggest a new beginning, a personal transformation, a new adventure, or simply the optimism that comes with believing there is still something ahead worth discovering.

For some viewers, the emerald forms may evoke a lush landscape or distant horizon. Others may see water, movement, foliage, light, or an entirely imagined environment. Another viewer may respond primarily to the color and texture.

All of those interpretations are valid.

There is no single story that the viewer has to find.

That is particularly important to me as an artist. I don’t want my work to be so literal that it leaves no room for the imagination. I want the viewer to participate in the experience.

Emerald Dreams of Tomorrow can make a strong contemporary statement in a home, office, gallery, studio, or other sophisticated interior. Its emerald palette provides richness and depth while the abstract composition allows it to work with a wide range of contemporary and transitional surroundings.

Viewed from a distance, the painting has an immediate visual presence. As you move closer, the mixed-media construction begins to reveal itself. You can discover photographic fragments, painted passages, glazing, texture, and subtle variations in the surface. These details encourage the viewer to spend time with the artwork rather than simply passing by it.

That relationship between distance and discovery is central to my work.

I want the artwork to have an initial impact, but I also want it to continue giving something back after you have lived with it.

Perhaps that is what tomorrow represents as well.

We never experience the future all at once. We encounter it gradually, one moment at a time. What seems distant eventually becomes the present, and then becomes memory. The dreams we have today can become the experiences we remember tomorrow.

In that sense, Emerald Dreams of Tomorrow is not only about looking forward. It is also about recognizing the value of possibility itself.

My mixed-media process reflects that philosophy. I combine original photography with exhibition-quality canvas, layers of acrylic paint, glazing, texture, and carefully placed areas of shimmer. The combination allows me to move between photography and painting, reality and abstraction, structure and spontaneity.

The result is a work that exists somewhere between the recognizable and the imagined.
